Awka, Aug.10, 2018 (MOI) Anambra State Government has finalised arrangements to ensure empowerment of 10,000 youths annually.    

Gov. Willie Obiano announced this during the International Youth Day celebration with theme: ``Safe Spaces for Youth’’, at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Gov. Obiano, who expressed happiness over excellent performance by youths of Anambra at the global level, said his administration would continue to provide them the platform to succeed.

He said that it was in a bid to tap their potential that his administration increased the Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship budget to N5 billion to empower 40,000 youths over the next four years.

``At the moment, we are doing well in the aspect of providing training to our youths. So far, no fewer than 500 youths have been trained at the Nnewi Technology Incubation Centre.

``Also, 350 youths have been trained at Mgbakwu Skills Acquisition Centre.

``The graduates of this exercise shall be given N100 million seed money this year to grow their businesses.

``It is also very important to note that under my watch,11 Trade Schools in Anambra State have been running tuition-free, since 2014,’’ Obiano said. 

He assured that youths would continue to be integrated into governance structure through offers of political appointments.

The Governor stressed that arrangements had been concluded for some youths from the state to travel to Austria to pursue further studies.

``We shall continue to open new doors for you, create new opportunities and lend a helping hand to ensure that you live your dreams,’’ Gov. Obiano added.

Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr Bonaventure Enemali said he appreciated state government’s investment in the creative sector to provide jobs for the youths.

In a speech, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Mark Okoye extolled the steps taken to include youths in decision-making process in the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr Ifeatu Obi- Okoye re-stated the need for youths to be exposed to useful skills that could help them to fit into the society.

The event witnessed inauguration of `One Youth, One Skill Project’, by the Governor to promote the training of youths in entrepreneurship programmes. (MOI)
