Awka, Nov. 4, 2020 (MOI) Bishop of Omu, Missionary Diocese, Omu-Aran Kwara State, Rt. Rev. Festus Oyetola Sobanke has urged the newly collated Canons and Venerable to be committed to God’s service.
Bishop Sobanke said this during the collation service at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka presided over by Rt. Rev. Chibuzor Ibezim, Archbishop of the province of Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Anglican Communion.
In his homily, Bishop Sobanke advised clergymen to focus on their calling and be committed to God’s service in their various places of assignment.
He said that God’s calling has reward as God diligently rewards diligent and dedicated servants in his vineyard.
The cleric enjoined them to move out from the crowd in order to fulfill the purpose of God for them.
He urged the Archdeacons and Canons to shun gossiping and backbiting in order to become good pastors.
Bishop encouraged them not to be distracted by worldly entanglements, maintaining that every clergyman must bear in mind that they were role models to the congregation they shepherded.
He emphasised the need for them to bear fruits worthy of emulation.
``Sit up to your ministerial responsibilities and bear in mind that to whom much is given, much is expected.
``Put God first in all your affairs for an effective ministry; always work selflessly in your places of assignment,’’ he said. (MOI)
