Dunukofia, Oyi TC Chairmen commend governor’s wife on empowerment of women

Ukpo (Dunukofia LGA), Oct. 14, 2020 (MOI) Transition Committee Chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area (LGA), Mr Emeka Okonkwo has commended wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for her efforts at empowering women in communities.

Mrs Obiano widely known as Osodieme through her NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE) empowers women, the indigent and children in communities through skills acquisition and supporting business start ups.

The chairman made the commendation during her visit to the area in continuation of her tour of LGs and communities in the state.

Mr Okonkwo, an engineer said that the laudable investment made in the welfare of women and the physically challenged persons through CAFE in spite of scarce resources play critical roles in the development of the community and the society.

``There is no better tool for the development in a society than motivating the women folks with skills and financial support in business start ups.

``Many women have been lifted up socially and their interests aroused in evolving demands of modernity as well as parenting and care of families.’’

He praised Mrs Obiano for tremendous investments in empowering no fewer than 4,610 women and youths in various skills, building of houses for widows, medical care and construction of toilets in rural markets in which his community benefited.

At Oyi LGA, the Transition Committee Chairman, Mr Nnamdi Nwadiogbu, also an engineer while receiving Mrs Obiano and her entourage commended the State Government for fostering peace and security in the state.

He thanked the Governor's wife for her visit in spite of ravaging COVID-19 pandemic and her giant strides in empowerment of women in skill acquisition through CAFE.

A Library building bankrolled by the Oyi TC Chairman was inaugurated by Mrs Obiano.

Osodieme, then, distributed educational materials to school children, food items and cash to the elderly and the physically challenged persons in the two LGAs visited.

The community tour had in attendance traditional rulers of various communities, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue and Commissioner for trade and Commerce, Mr Uche Okafor, Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr Chike Maduekwe and various women groups. (MOI)
